I spy… Double standards

In Metro December 1, 2016

Côte à côte lie an ad for a roasted turkey on the left, which we can gather from cultural knowledge of traditional Christmas dishes in the UK, and on the right, an item about a duck from Wetheriggs Animal Rescue Centre in Co Durham.

It is not possible to know for certain, but the compartmentalisation I often discuss is so successfully embedded in our culture, that the editors must have not noticed this dichotomy. On one side of the sheet Metro presents us with an ad for a roasted bird, and on the other, celebrates a rescued bird.
